*** Recall that soil is made up of various materials (weaathered rock, minerals, plant and animal remains, living organisms)
***Compare and contrast changes in the Earth's surface that are due to slow process and rapid processes (DOK2)
Plan :
Monday
  • Math -     TSW create a bar graph by designing categories (3), collecting data, and writing 3 sentences describing the information collected .  Students will work in groups to design categories about cars on Pass Road (color, brands, types, ie trucks, cars, motorcycles).  We will then walk to the playground and collect data about passing cars using tally marks.  After 10 minutes we will return to class and complete our graphs.
  • Accelerated Math - time permitting
  • Science - TSW recall that soil is made of living and nonliving things.  Science text C14 - 17
Tuesday
  • Math -   TSW review types of graphs by reviewing flip chart.  http://www.prometheanplanet.com/server.php?show=ConResource.8633.  Students may finished their graphing project from yesterday.
  • Accelerated Math
  • Science - TSW watch United Streaming video about types (sandy, loam, red clay)  and layers of soil (top soil, subsoil. solid rock). When finished they will complete handout. Students complete the "Dirt on Dirt" science experiment by examining different typed of dirt (potting soil, local soil, and sand)
Wednesday
  • Math - TSW complete weekly mixed practice test and a fact assessment test.
  • Accelerated Math - TSW complete exercises, practices, and test using the Accelerated Math program when finished with weekly tests.
  • Science - TSW complete science weekly test about rocks, minerals and soil. (Grand layers of Rock)
Thursday - Quest Day (see substitute plans)
  •  Math - The students will complete a Halloween activity packet which includes activities based on quarterly skills.
  • Accelerated Math - No accelerated math today
  • Science - TSW create a booklet about soil formation.
