 • 3Sc4 - Discover how internal and external forces affect the Earth's surface. (E)
 • 3Sc4a - Describe the three major layers of the Earth.
 • 3Sc4b - Examine and identify rocks of different types (metamorphic, sedimentary, and igneous).
 • 3Sc4c - Discuss places fossils can be found.
 • 3Sc4d - Relate how internal forces affect the Earth's surface including earthquakes and volcanoes.
 • 3M.1c. - Estimate sums and differences of whole numbers to include strategies such as rounding. (DOK 2)
 • 3M.1f. - Model multiplication using arrays, equal-sized groups, area models, and equal-sized moves on the number line. (DOK 2)
 • 3M.4a. - Develop and use methods to find perimeter of polygons and to solve problems involving perimeter. (DOK 2)
 • 3M.5a. - Compare data and interpret quantities represented on tables and different types of graphs (line plots, pictographs, and bar graphs), make predictions, and solve problems based on the information. (DOK 3)
Additional Objectives/Standards :
Not Defined
Plan :
Monday - Bell ringer - Drops in a Bucket math/journal/AR reading and testing
  • Math - Focus Lesson TSW use estimation strategies to solve word problems.  TTW review estimation strategies and lead class practice using Promethean board flip charts.  Assessment - class participation
  • Accelerated Math - Students will work on individual skills and one-to-one with teacher.
  • Science - After reading science text page C88 - C90 and identifying/listing examples of common resources,  students will "mine" for resources in an oatmeal cookie by following directions on the promethean board.  As we complete this investigation, students will review the scientific process.
  • Materials - oatmeal cookies, water, eye droppers, paper plates, toothpicks, flip chart
  •

Tuesday - Bell ringer - Drops in a Bucket math/journal/AR reading and testing
  • Math - Focus Lesson - TSW collect data and interpret quantities from student created graphs.  Students will work individually or with a partner (DI) to predict, record and analyze a package of M&M's. Early finishers will write statements about graph.  Enrichment - Students will write questions about graphs and answers their partners questions.  Assessment - finished product.
  • Accelerated Math - Students will work on individual skills and one-to-one with teacher.
  • Science - TSW watch a United Streaming video on "The Earth and Its Resourses" and distinguish between natural and renewable resources.
  • Materials - M&M's, US video
  •

Wednesday - Test Day              Bell Ringer - Drops in a Bucket review/journal/AR reading and testing
  • Math - Focus Lesson-  Students will complete a Weekly Mixed practice Test .
  • Accelerated Math - Students will work on individual skills and one-to-one with teacher.
  • Science - TSW complete a weekly test on Earth Science (quarterly) skills. (soil, rocks and minerals, resources, layers of the earth)
  •

Thursday - Quest Day                   Bell Ringer - Drops in a Bucket Review/journal/AR reading and testing
  • Math - Focus Lesson - TSW estimate and determine the perimeter of a polygon using centimeter rulers.  TTW lead class instruction on Math text p. 532-533.  Informal assessment will be through the use of Promethean flip chart with activotes.  Reteaching - Teacher will work with small group to review weekly mixed practice.
  • Accelerated Math - Students will work on individual skills and one-to-one with teacher.
  • Science - TSW describe recycling and identify the way recycling saves resources. After reading science text C100 - 104, students will complete a graphic organizer (tree map) to list things that can be recycled, how resources that aren't recycled can be saved, and how you can help reduce pollution.
  • Materials - centimeter rulers, tree maps
  •

Friday - Bell Ringer - Drops in a Bucket Review/journal/AR reading and testing
  • Math - Focus Lesson - TSW use graph paper to draw out their names in the blocks, then predict and measure using centimeters.     Assessment - Students will complete weekly exit poll evaluating learning activities and their academic progress.     TSW complete fact assessment on Multiplication (0-6)
  • Accelerated Math - Students will work on individual skills and one-to-one with teacher.
  • Science - Students will use their graphic organizer to create a picture representation of chapter concepts (listed on Thursday).  Display in hall.
  • Materials - cm graph paper, art paper
